Bremen Township Officials Lower Their Own Salaries
At the Bremen Township meeting held on October 1st, 2024, Township Officials took an unprecedented vote. According to State Statute, this is the meeting that elected officials must determine and vote for their compensation for the next term.
Supervisor Kathryn Straniero introduced a resolution and made a motion that salaries for elected officials to be reduced by 5%, and again rejecting pensions and health care benefits for elected officials. This motion was accepted with Supervisor Straniero, Trustees Mary Catuara, Edward Maggio, and John M. (Mike) Tatro all voting yes and the motion passed, with only one Trustee dissenting. These reductions will also include Clerk John Lord, Highway Commissioner John Flaherty, and the Assessor.
After the resolution was passed, Supervisor Straniero thanked her fellow officials for putting the needs of Bremen Township residents ahead of their own interests and stated that these savings will go directly to programs and services to township residents.
Following the meeting, Straniero re-iterated her praise for the elected officials recognizing the fact that many families are struggling with ever increasing costs that they have no control over and that her fellow officials were doing their part to help alleviate those burdens. She also stated that she is proud to be a part of a team that uses every avenue available to assist taxpayers.
